I wrote this book as a companion to The Scented Flowers of Sinjin-Ka (ASAT Press), a collection of ninety-one short tales. I wrote it for the reader who, having been touched by the book’s magic and teachings, would like to take the magic and teachings to another level, a healing level.
This book is not for everyone. Why? Not everyone relates to the stories. Not everyone senses their magic. Not everyone journeys its magical path. I would never suggest this path is better, but I will suggest it’s different. If the magical tales in The Scented Flowers of Sinjin-Ka speak to you, if you wish to take their teachings further, then this book may be for you. This book could be a powerful addition to your healing and growing work, and a companion on your unique journey of self-awakening, self-discovery, and Coming Home.
I did not set out to write The Scented Flowers of Sinjin-Ka. I was working on another book at the time. But during the summer of 2014, the first of the stories appeared. Over the next thirty days, the ninety-one tales sprang up, often at mind-numbing speed. I would awaken in the middle of the night and start working on a rough draft for a new story. I often interrupted daily activities to jot notes or record passages. On several occasions, while driving, I had to pull over to the curb to write down ideas for fear I’d forget them. On the thirtieth day, the last of the tales came through; no more appeared after that.
All in all, it was an exciting time and a scary time, a fun time, and a crazy time. But it was, above all else, a magical time. I also learned to pace myself, a gift I truly cherish. And I also improved my parallel parking.
But what was I going to do with these stories? What’s next for them? It wasn’t until a few months later that I came up with the idea of incorporating them into my counseling and group work. Why not? They’d be an interesting conversation starter.
I’d begin sessions by asking clients or students to close their eyes and pick a number from one to ninety-one. Then I’d ask them to read the story corresponding to the number.
The results were mind-boggling! The synchronicity was astonishing! It turned out that the stories, each randomly selected, related precisely to an issue needing attention in the person’s life at the current time. The readings led to amazing sessions. Each story read, along with the subsequent discussion, led to breakthroughs and healings at profound levels, and each tale provided valuable insights for future processing. The whole experience was not only fun; It was magical.
Every story in The Scented Flowers of Sinjin-Ka teaches a valuable lesson, and every tale addresses a topic that, when worked with, will further the reader’s self-understanding, advance the reader’s self-development, and contribute to the reader’s self-healing. The stories are road-maps for a journey of immeasurable growth and awakening. With this in mind, and with their successful use with clients and students, I began writing commentaries on each tale.
I wanted the commentaries to serve as a starting point for self-discovery, self-understanding, and self-healing. I wanted the commentaries to open the reader to synchronicities and magic on the journey he or she is currently on. And I wanted the commentaries to be another way to channel the guidance and wisdom of the reader’s Higher Self for even greater awakenings and change. And I also felt that the stories and commentaries, when working together, would allow both the left and right brain equal participation in the healing process.
So this book, The Magic of the Scented Flowers came to be. It’s written to be an oracle of self-exploration. Its objective is to serve as a means for deeper, more profound healing. And it will, if used wisely, provide a way for the reader to process his or her healing and growing independently. And, of course, it’s written to be fun and magical.
The Magic of the Scented Flowers is, in a sense, the workbook for The Scented Flowers of Sinjin-Ka. Combined, they’ll serve as an excellent guide on your unique journey of growth and discovery. Approaching this work with honesty and humility will open you to insights and revelations that can, and will, help awaken the ‘more’ of you.
These are books of stories. These are books of healing. These are books of magic. They’re books of your story, your healing, and your magic if you’ll allow them to be so.
You’re about to embark on a new phase of your journey. Let it be magical, mystical, enchanting, and fun. Be willing to explore the mysterious unknown that lies before you. On the other side is the ‘you’ you’ve always sought to become and so very much more. On the other side, your Future Self and your Truer Self wait with arms wide open.
